Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin
  2. chest tightness
  3. chills
  4. cough
  5. cracked, dry, scaly skin
  6. difficulty breathing
  7. dizziness
  8. facial swelling
  9. fever
  10. headache
  11. nausea
  12. noisy breathing
  13. skin rash
  14. vomiting

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. anxiety
  3. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. bloody, black, or tarry stools
  5. blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  6. blurred vision
  7. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  8. chest discomfort or pain
  9. collection of blood under the skin
  10. confusion
  11. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  12. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  13. decreased urine output
  14. deep, dark purple bruise
  15. depression
  16. diarrhea
  17. difficult, fast, noisy breathing
  18. difficulty swallowing
  19. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  20. headache, severe and throbbing
  21. high fever
  22. hives or welts, itching
  23. hostility
  24. increased sweating
  25. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  26. irritability
  27. joint or muscle pain
  28. lightheadedness or fainting
  29. loss of consciousness
  30. muscle twitching
  31. nervousness
  32. pain in the chest, groin, or legs, especially the calves
  33. pain, redness, or swelling of the skin
  34. painful or difficult urination
  35. pale skin
  36. pounding in the ears
  37. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  38. rapid weight gain
  39. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  40. red, irritated eyes
  41. seizures
  42. severe sleepiness
  43. slow heartbeat
  44. slurred speech
  45. sore throat
  46. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  47. stiff neck or back
  48. sudden loss of coordination
  49. sudden, severe weakness or numbness in the arm or leg
  50. swelling of the legs, ankles, or hands
  51. swollen glands
  52. tenderness, pain, swelling, warmth, skin discoloration, and prominent superficial veins over the affected area
  53. trouble breathing
  54. unexplained bleeding or bruising
  55. unusual bleeding or bruising
  56. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness
  57. upper stomach pain
  58. vision changes

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Skin abrasion

  1. Back pain
  2. difficulty in moving
  3. feeling of warmth
  4. increased sweating
  5. loss or thinning of hair
  6. muscle cramping
  7. pain in the arms or legs
  8. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  9. skin discoloration
  10. stomach distension
  11. swollen joints
