Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Arm, back, or jaw pain
  2. bladder pain
  3. bleeding gums
  4. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  5. bloody or cloudy urine
  6. blurred vision
  7. changes in skin color
  8. chest pain, discomfort, tightness or heaviness
  9. chills
  10. cold hands and feet
  11. confusion
  12. constipation
  13. cough or hoarseness
  14. coughing up blood
  15. decreased urine
  16. depression
  17. diarrhea
  18. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  19. difficulty with breathing or swallowing
  20. dilated neck veins
  21. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  22. dry mouth
  23. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  24. feeling of warmth
  25. fever
  26. headache
  27. incoherent speech
  28. increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding
  29. increased thirst
  30. increased urination
  31. local infection at the catheter site
  32. loss of appetite
  33. metallic taste
  34. muscle pain, cramps, or weakness
  35. nausea or vomiting
  36. nosebleeds
  37. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  38. pain at the injection site
  39. pain, redness, or swelling in the arm or leg
  40. paleness of the skin
  41. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  42. rapid weight gain
  43. red or black, tarry stools
  44. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  45. seizures
  46. stomach pain
  47. sweating
  48. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  49. unusual tiredness or weakness
  50. weight gain or loss

Less common

  1. Altered or abnormal touch sensation or sensitivity
  2. blue lips and fingernails
  3. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  5. difficult, fast, or noisy breathing
  6. inability to speak
  7. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  8. slurred speech
  9. temporary blindness
  10. weakness in the arm or leg on one side of the body, sudden and severe
  11. weakness or heaviness of the legs

Incidence not known

  1. Feeling of fullness
  2. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  3. sensitivity to heat
  4. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  5. swollen glands
  6. trouble sleeping
  7. trouble breathing

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Change in vision
  2. difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  3. difficulty with moving
  4. heartburn
  5. hives or welts, itching
  6. joint pain
  7. lack or loss of strength
  8. loss of interest or pleasure
  9. muscle pains or stiffness
  10. redness of the skin
  11. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  12. skin rash, encrusted, scaly and oozing
  13. sores on the skin
  14. swollen joints
  15. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  16. trouble concentrating

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  4. indigestion
  5. leg cramps
  6. passing gas
  7. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  8. stomach discomfort or upset

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
