Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. confusion
  3. constipation
  4. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  5. fainting
  6. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  7. fever
  8. nausea
  9. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  10. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  11. sweating
  12. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  13. unusual tiredness or weakness
  14. vomiting

Less common

  1. Anxiety
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. chest pain or tightness
  4. chills
  5. cough or hoarseness
  6. decrease in the frequency of urination
  7. decrease in urine volume
  8. difficult or labored breathing
  9. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  10. discouragement
  11. dry mouth
  12. feeling sad or empty
  13. fever with or without chills
  14. frequent strong or increased urge to urinate
  15. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  16. headache
  17. hyperventilation
  18. irritability
  19. lack of appetite
  20. loss of bladder control
  21. loss of interest or pleasure
  22. lower back or side pain
  23. muscle spasm or jerking of the arms or legs
  24. painful or difficult urination
  25. pounding in the ears
  26. restlessness or need to keep moving
  27. seizures
  28. severe or continuing headache
  29. shakiness and unsteady walk
  30. slurred speech
  31. sore throat
  32. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  33. sudden jerky movements of the body
  34. sudden loss of consciousness
  35. swollen glands
  36. throat discomfort
  37. trouble concentrating
  38. trouble sleeping
  39. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination

Rare

  1. Absence of or decrease in movement
  2. change in appetite
  3. dark urine
  4. decreased sexual ability
  5. difficult or fast breathing or sudden shortness of breath
  6. increased sweating
  7. increased thirst
  8. increased urination
  9. lip smacking or puckering
  10. muscle stiffness (severe)
  11. puffing of the cheeks
  12. rapid or worm-like movements of the tongue
  13. swelling or pain in the leg
  14. uncontrolled chewing movements
  15. uncontrolled movements of the arms and legs
  16. unusual bleeding or bruising
  17. unusually pale skin
  18. weakness
  19. yellow eyes or skin

Incidence not known

  1. Bloating
  2. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  3. clay-colored stools
  4. confusion as to time, place, or person
  5. diarrhea
  6. epileptic seizure that will not stop
  7. feeling that others are watching you or controlling your behavior
  8. feeling that others can hear your thoughts
  9. feeling, seeing, or hearing things that are not there
  10. holding false beliefs that cannot be changed by fact
  11. inability to move the eyes
  12. increased blinking or spasms of the eyelid
  13. indigestion
  14. itching or skin rash
  15. joint pain
  16. light-colored stools
  17. muscle twitching
  18. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  19. rhythmic movement of the muscles
  20. severe mood or mental changes
  21. sticking out of the tongue
  22. swelling around the eyes
  23. swelling of the body or feet and ankles
  24. trouble with speaking
  25. unpleasant breath odor
  26. unusual behavior
  27. unusual excitement, nervousness, or restlessness
  28. unusual facial expressions
  29. unusual weight gain
  30. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  31. vomiting of blood

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  4. heartburn
  5. relaxed and calm sensation of spinning
  6. sleepiness

Less common

  1. Blurred or loss of vision
  2. change or problem with discharge of semen
  3. disturbed color perception
  4. double vision
  5. halos around lights
  6. inability to sit still
  7. increase in body movements
  8. muscle ache or pain
  9. muscle weakness
  10. night blindness
  11. nightmares
  12. overbright appearance of lights
  13. pain in the back, neck, or legs
  14. pain in the chest below the breastbone
  15. severe muscle stiffness
  16. sore tongue
  17. stuffy nose
  18. tunnel vision
  19. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. hives, sores, welting, or blisters
  3. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  4. painful or prolonged erection of the penis
  5. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  6. red, irritated eyes
  7. reddening of the skin, especially around the ears
  8. severe stomach pain
  9. severe sunburn
  10. swelling of the eyes, face, or inside of the nose
  11. swelling of the salivary glands
