Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  2. indigestion
  3. stomach upset or tenderness

Less common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. chest pain
  3. diarrhea
  4. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  3. bloody or cloudy urine
  4. blurred vision
  5. chest tightness
  6. chills
  7. confusion
  8. constipation
  9. continuing vomiting
  10. cough
  11. darkened urine
  12. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  13. difficulty breathing
  14. difficulty swallowing
  15. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  16. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  17. fever
  18. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  19. hair loss
  20. headache
  21. heartburn
  22. hives, itching, skin rash
  23. increased thirst
  24. indigestion
  25. joint or muscle pain
  26. loss of appetite
  27. lower back or side pain
  28. mood or mental changes
  29. muscle or joint pain
  30. muscle spasms (tetany) or twitching
  31. nausea
  32. nervousness
  33. nosebleed
  34. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  35. pain or swelling in the arms or legs without any injury
  36. painful or difficult urination
  37. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  38. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  39. rapid weight gain
  40. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  41. red, irritated eyes
  42. seizures
  43. severe stomach cramps and pain
  44. slow heartbeat
  45. sore throat
  46. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  47. stomach pain, cramping, tenderness, or burning
  48. swelling of the face, fingers, or lower legs
  49. swollen glands
  50. trembling
  51. trouble breathing
  52. unusual bleeding or bruising
  53. unusual tiredness or weakness
  54. unusual weight gain or loss
  55. vomiting
  56. watery and severe diarrhea, which may also be bloody
  57. weakness or heaviness of the legs
  58. weight gain
  59. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Incidence not known

  1. Bad unusual or unpleasant (after) taste
  2. belching
  3. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. change in taste
  5. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  6. double vision
  7. heartburn
  8. inability to have or keep an erection
  9. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  10. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  11. loss or thinning of the hair
  12. redness or discoloration of the skin
  13. severe sunburn
  14. swelling of the breasts or breast soreness in both females and males
  15. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
