Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Back pain
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin
  4. blood in the urine
  5. bloody nose
  6. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, painful, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  7. chest pain or tightness
  8. chills
  9. cough
  10. coughing or spitting up blood
  11. cracked, dry, or scaly skin
  12. dry, itching skin
  13. fever
  14. flushing
  15. headache
  16. loosening of the fingernails
  17. muscle or bone pain
  18. nausea and vomiting
  19. nerve pain
  20. rash with flat lesions or small raised lesions on the skin
  21. redness or soreness around the fingernails
  22. sneezing
  23. swelling
  24. trouble breathing
  25. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  26. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet

Less common

  1. Anxiety
  2. dizziness or lightheadedness
  3. fainting
  4. fast heartbeat
  5. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  6. thickening of bronchial secretions

Rare

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. blurred vision or other change in vision
  3. diarrhea
  4. eye redness, irritation, or pain
  5. red irritated eyes
  6. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  7. sensitivity of the eye to light
  8. sore throat
  9. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  10. tearing
  11. unusual tiredness or weakness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Canker sores
  2. chapped, red, or swollen lips
  3. constipation
  4. decreased appetite
  5. difficulty in moving
  6. lack or loss of strength
  7. muscle aches, cramps, or stiffness
  8. pain in the arms or legs
  9. pain in the joints
  10. redness, swelling, or soreness of the tongue
  11. scaling, redness, burning, pain, or other signs of inflammation of the lips
  12. stomach pain
  13. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
