El esófago de Barrett tiene un aspecto particular cuando se lo observa en una prueba endoscópica. Durante la endoscopia, el médico pasa un tubo flexible con una cámara de video en la punta (endoscopio) por la garganta y dentro del tubo de deglución (el esófago). La cámara de video detecta anomalías en la superficie, como daños por reflujo ácido o la presencia de una hernia de hiato o úlceras, así como el esófago de Barrett.
