   The purpose of this study is to investigate the epidemiologic and psychologic factors for spasmotic dsyphonia (SD).

   Rochester, Minn.

   Aims, purpose, or objectives:

   1) Develop hypotheses related to how the human genome and genetic variants affect hearing loss in children and adults.

   2) Understand phenotypes of hearing loss on a deeper level by combining and analyzing information from audiometric, genetic, and radiologic data.

   3) Explore genetic variants with an unknown significance to develop an understanding of their potential significance and explore other genes may influence an individual's hearing ability.

3. A Study to Evaluate the Relationship of a Predictive Gag Survey and Patient’s Gag Reflex in Flexible Laryngoscopy

   Rochester, Minn.

   The primary purpose of this study is to assess the correlation between the predictive gag survey (PGS) and a provider-completed GSI  in patients undergoing nasolaryngoscopy. 

4. A Study to Assess Sinus Stenting to Manage Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak

   Rochester, Minn.

   The purpose of this study is to determine whether transverse/sigmoid sinus junction stenting reduces the risk of recurrent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak in patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension presenting with CSF leak.

    

5. A Study to Evaluate The Use of Intravenous Fluorescein Sodium (FS) and YELLOW 560 nm Microscope Filter (YE560) During Surgery for Vestibular Schwannomas (VS)

   Rochester, Minn.

   The purpose of this study is to evaluate the benefit of using intravenous fluorescein sodium (FS) and YELLOW 560 nm microscope filter (YE560) during surgery for vestibular schwannomas (VS), and to determine the optimum FS dose and timing to be used with the YE560 device.

6. A Study Assessing Robotic Surgery in the Seated Position for Benign and Malignant Lesions of the Head and Neck Using the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System

   Rochester, Minn.

   This study is designed to investigate if transoral surgery with the patient in the seated position utilizing the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System (Intuitive Surgical, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA) will enable better visualization and expedited removal of benign and malignant tumors of the throat.

7. A Study to Identify Biomarkers in the Blood, Saliva or Tissue for Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Cancer

   Rochester, Minn.

   The purpose of this study is to identify a biomarker (or biomarkers) that is present when disease is present (i.e., at diagnosis or recurrence) and not present when disease is absent (i.e., after treatment, in HPV negative patients or in normal controls).

8. Laryngopharyngeal Reflux before and after Cricopharyngeal Myotomy

   In patients with gastroesophageal reflux and/or laryngopharyngeal reflux with cricopharyngeal hypertrophy or Zenker's diverticulum, does cricopharyngeal myotomy increase the amount of laryngopharyngeal reflux?

9. A Study to Evaluate A Tinnitus Implant System to Treat Chronic Severe Tinnitus

   Rochester, Minn.

   The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of implementing a novel Tinnitus Implant System for suppression of chronic intractable tinnitus.

10. Quality of Life in Patients with Acoustic Neuromas

    Rochester, Minn.

    Acoustic neuromas (also known as vestibular schwannomas) are benign slow growing tumors that arise from the vestibular portion of the eighth cranial nerve. Current treatment options include microsurgery, stereotactic radiosurgery and observation, using a “wait-and-scan” approach. The primary objective of this study is to compare long-term quality of life outcomes between treatments for sporadic acoustic neuromas.
