Malakh Shrestha, M.B.B.S., Ph.D., received his medical education at R. G Kar Medical College, Calcutta, India. Cardiac Surgery residency at Hannover Medical University, Hannover Germany. Dr. Shrestha completed his doctorate in Cardiac Surgery (2005) and post doctorate in Cardiac Surgery (Ph.D./"Habilitation" 2009) at Hannover Medical University.

Prior to joining the Mayo Clinic Rochester, Dr. Shrestha was Professor and Director of the Aortic Surgery, as well as Vice Chairman of division of Cardiothoracic, Transplantation and Vascular Surgery in Hannover Medical University, Hannover, Germany.

Dr. Shrestha's interests include but not limited to aortic aneurysm repair, root surgery, arch replacement, valve repair and replacement.

Dr. Shrestha over the years has preformed various worldwide first in man procedures, such as, rapid deployment valve, (Edwards Lifesciences, Intuity Valve). He was part of the expert team developing/implanting Percival sutureless valves (Sorin/Livanova/Corcym) and Thoraflex Hybrid Frozen Elephant Trunk graft. He has preformed worldwide largest number of total aortic arch replacement with the Thoraflex Hybrid Frozen Elephant Trunk graft. He has also pioneered minimally invasive aortic surgery, especially valve sparring aortic root replacements.
