Patient Care

Awake brain surgery offers significant advantages for patients
Neurologic testing during surgery offers patients who are treated for brain tumors, focal epilepsy, cavernomas and arteriovenous malformations an additional layer of safety. Forgoing anesthesia allows patients to provide immediate feedback to surgeons during and after surgery. Recovery is rapid.

Research

Mouse model exhibits pathologies and symptoms associated with ALS
A new mouse model sheds light on a link between the C9ORF72 repeat expansion and inclusions of TDP-43, a protein that has long been known to go awry in the majority of ALS and frontotemporal dementia cases.

SIH is more commonly diagnosed as a cause of headaches
Spontaneous intracranial hypotension (SIH) is typically the result of spontaneous cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) leak at the spine level. It now appears that the core pathogenic factor in SIH is decreased CSF volume rather than decreased CSF opening pressure.
