Established in 1970, the Department of Development serves as a liaison between Mayo Clinic and our family of benefactors. We offer:
Professionalism: We support each Mayo Clinic campus and the Mayo Health System. Our staff members speak to the unique opportunities of each Mayo location, as well as the overall mission of the organization. Development officers have expertise in estate and charitable gift planning to help you meet your philanthropic goals. They are available to meet you on a Mayo Clinic campus or in your home or place of business. All discussions are confidential. Our department includes colleagues in many professions who work with Development officers to facilitate and honor your gift.
Privacy: Just as Mayo Clinic protects the privacy of patients, the Department of Development honors the privacy of benefactors. We do not access the medical records of any Mayo Clinic patient.
Collegiality: Development officers work closely with a benefactor's legal and financial advisors, as well as family members and others as appropriate. Our goal is to ensure that philanthropic plans meet the benefactor's best interest as well as Mayo's needs and priorities.
Salaried staff: Like all Mayo Clinic employees, members of the Department of Development are salaried. We have no commissions or profit-sharing plans based on the amount or type of gifts that are provided.
Focus on patients: The medical director and associate medical directors for Development are practicing physicians. Many Mayo Clinic physicians, scientists and educators play an active role in the Department of Development. This participation ensures a continued emphasis on serving the needs of our patients.
Advocacy: Members of the Department of Development serve as liaisons, connecting benefactors with Mayo's leadership in patient care, research, and education.
Commitment: In the Department of Development, we put our commitment to philanthropy into action. Many members of our department contribute to Mayo Clinic and other not-for-profit organizations through payroll deduction, estate planning and individual giving.
