Aortic root surgery is a procedure to treat a dilation or enlargement (aortic aneurysm) of the large blood vessel that carries blood from your heart to your vital organs (aorta). Doctors perform aortic root surgery to prevent rupture of the dilated aorta, and to prevent the dilated aorta from stretching the attached aortic valve. Aortic aneurysms near the junction of your aorta and your heart (aortic root) are associated with Marfan syndrome and other heart conditions.
