Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Chills
  2. diarrhea
  3. fever
  4. general feeling of illness or discomfort
  5. headache
  6. itching of the vagina or genital area
  7. pain during sexual intercourse
  8. rigidity
  9. sweating
  10. thick, white vaginal discharge with no odor or with a mild odor

Less common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. chest pain
  3. cough
  4. loose stools
  5. painful or difficult urination
  6. shortness of breath
  7. sore throat
  8. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  9. swollen glands
  10. unusual bleeding or bruising
  11. unusual tiredness or weakness

Rare

  1. Back, leg, or stomach pains
  2. bladder pain
  3. bleeding gums
  4. bloody or cloudy urine
  5. body aches or pain
  6. burning while urinating
  7. dark urine
  8. difficulty with breathing
  9. ear congestion
  10. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  11. frequent urge to urinate
  12. general body swelling
  13. loss of appetite
  14. loss of voice
  15. lower back or side pain
  16. nasal congestion
  17. nausea or vomiting
  18. nosebleeds
  19. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  20. pale skin
  21. pink or red urine
  22. sneezing
  23. stuffy or runny nose
  24. swelling of the joints
  25. swollen glands
  26. tightness of chest or wheezing
  27. white or brownish vaginal discharge
  28. white patches in the mouth or throat or on the tongue
  29. white patches with diaper rash
  30. yellowing of the eyes or skin

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. bloody, black, or tarry stools
  3. clay-colored stools
  4. cough or hoarseness
  5. coughing up blood
  6. decrease in urine output or decrease in urine-concentrating ability
  7. feeling of discomfort
  8. fever with or without chills
  9. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  10. high fever
  11. hives
  12. increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding
  13. joint or muscle pain
  14. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  15. light-colored stools
  16. paralysis
  17. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  18. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  19. red or black, tarry stools
  20. red or dark brown urine
  21. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  22. red, irritated eyes
  23. seizures
  24. swollen lymph glands
  25. swollen or painful glands
  26. unpleasant breath odor
  27. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  28. vomiting of blood

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste
  2. change in taste
  3. diaper rash

Rare

  1. Abdominal or stomach cramps
  2. acid or sour stomach
  3. belching
  4. bloated
  5. difficulty with moving
  6. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  7. flushing or redness of the skin
  8. full feeling
  9. gas in the stomach
  10. heartburn
  11. indigestion
  12. irritability
  13. irritation or soreness of the mouth
  14. itching skin
  15. muscle pain or stiffness
  16. muscle spasm of the neck
  17. passing gas
  18. restlessness
  19. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  20. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  21. swelling of the tongue
  22. thirst
  23. trouble sitting still
  24. unusually warm skin
  25. watering of the mouth and drooling
  26. weight loss

Incidence not known

  1. Hives or welts
  2. redness of the skin
