Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Chills
  2. cold sweats
  3. confusion
  4. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position

Less common

  1. Anxiety
  2. bleeding from rectum or bloody stools
  3. blurred vision
  4. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  5. change in personality
  6. chest pain or discomfort
  7. cough
  8. diarrhea
  9. difficulty with speaking
  10. drooling
  11. dry mouth
  12. excessive muscle tone
  13. feeling of warmth or heat
  14. feeling that others are watching you or controlling your behavior
  15. feeling that others can hear your thoughts
  16. feeling, seeing, or hearing things that are not there
  17. fever
  18. flushing or redness of the skin, especially on the face and neck
  19. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  20. headache
  21. hyperventilation
  22. incremental or ratchet-like movement of the muscles
  23. irregular heartbeats
  24. irritability
  25. joint pain
  26. loss of appetite
  27. loss of balance control
  28. multiple swollen and inflamed skin lesions
  29. muscle aches and pains
  30. muscle discomfort
  31. muscle tension or tightness
  32. muscle trembling, jerking, or stiffness
  33. nausea
  34. nervousness
  35. painful or prolonged erection of the penis
  36. pounding in the ears
  37. restlessness
  38. rigid or stiff muscles
  39. runny nose
  40. severe mood or mental changes
  41. shaking
  42. shivering
  43. shortness of breath
  44. shuffling walk
  45. slow or fast heartbeat
  46. sore throat
  47. stiffness of the limbs
  48. sweating
  49. trouble sleeping
  50. twisting movements of the body
  51. uncontrolled movements, especially of the face, neck, and back
  52. unusual behavior
  53. unusual tiredness or weakness
  54. vomiting

Rare

  1. Actions that are out of control
  2. convulsions
  3. difficulty with breathing
  4. fainting
  5. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  6. high fever
  7. high or low blood pressure
  8. hives
  9. itching
  10. lip smacking or puckering
  11. loss of bladder control
  12. overactive reflexes
  13. poor coordination
  14. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  15. rapid or worm-like movements of the tongue
  16. shivering
  17. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  18. trembling
  19. twitching
  20. unexpected or excess milk flow from the breasts
  21. unusually pale skin
  22. wheezing

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Pain at the site of injection
  2. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. back pain
  3. belching
  4. constipation
  5. cramps
  6. heartburn
  7. heavy bleeding
  8. inability to sit still
  9. indigestion
  10. need to keep moving
  11. pain
  12. runny nose
  13. sleeplessness
  14. sneezing
  15. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  16. stuffy nose
  17. tooth disorder
  18. unable to sleep
  19. weight loss
