Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Difficulty with swallowing
  2. drowsiness
  3. inability to sit still
  4. loss of balance control
  5. mask-like face
  6. need to keep moving
  7. relaxed and calm
  8. restlessness
  9. shuffling walk
  10. sleepiness
  11. slowed movements
  12. slurred speech
  13. stiffness of the arms and legs
  14. tic-like (jerky) movements of the head, face, mouth, and neck
  15. trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands

Less common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. abnormal or decreased touch sensation
  3. absence of or decrease in body movement
  4. anxiety
  5. back pain
  6. black, tarry, stools
  7. bladder pain
  8. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  9. bloody or cloudy urine
  10. blurred vision
  11. body aches or pain
  12. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  13. change in walking and balance
  14. changes in patterns and rhythms of speech
  15. chest pain or discomfort
  16. clumsiness or unsteadiness
  17. cold flu-like symptoms
  18. cold sweats
  19. convulsions
  20. cough or hoarseness
  21. cough producing mucus
  22. depression
  23. diarrhea
  24. difficult or labored breathing
  25. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  26. difficulty with breathing
  27. difficulty with moving
  28. disturbed attention
  29. dizziness
  30. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from lying or sitting position

  34. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse

  64. pounding, slow heartbeat
  65. puffing of the cheeks
  66. rapid or worm-like movements of the tongue

  69. shortness of breath
  70. slow or fast heartbeat
  71. sneezing
  72. sore throat
  73. sticking out of the tongue
  74. stuffy or runny nose
  75. sweating
  76. swelling or puffiness of the face
  77. swollen joints
  78. tightness in the chest
  79. trouble with breathing, speaking, or swallowing
  80. trouble with sleeping
  81. troubled breathing with exertion
  82. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  83. uncontrolled chewing movements
  84. uncontrolled twisting movements of the neck, trunk, arms, or legs
  85. unexplained weight loss
  86. unusual bleeding or bruising
  87. unusual facial expressions
  88. unusual tiredness or weakness
  89. unusual weight gain or loss
  90. vomiting
  91. wheezing

  1. Abnormal growth filled with fluid or semisolid material
  2. accumulation of pus
  3. actions that are out of control
  4. bleeding gums
  5. blood in the urine or stools
  6. bluish lips or skin
  7. break in the skin, especially associated with blue-black discoloration, swelling, or drainage of fluid
  8. change in vision
  9. clay-colored stools
  10. clumsiness
  11. collection of blood under the skin
  12. coma
  13. confusion
  14. constipation
  15. dark urine
  16. deep, dark purple bruise
  17. drowsiness
  18. fever with or without chills
  19. flushed, dry skin
  20. fruit-like breath odor
  21. indigestion
  22. itching
  23. itching, pain, redness, or swelling
  24. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  25. loss of consciousness
  26. low body temperature
  27. not breathing
  28. painful or prolonged erection of the penis
  29. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  30. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  31. rash
  32. severe constipation
  33. swollen, red, tender area of infection
  34. talking, feeling, and acting with excitement
  35. tiredness
  36. unexplained weight loss
  37. unpleasant breath odor
  38. vomiting of blood
  39. weak or feeble pulse
  40. weight gain
  41. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. heartburn
  4. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain

Less common

  1. Abnormal ejaculation
  2. absent missed or irregular menstrual periods
  3. bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of the skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
  4. blemishes on the skin
  5. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  6. change in hearing
  7. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  8. decreased sexual performance or desire
  9. decreased vision
  10. discharge, excessive tearing
  11. dry skin
  12. ear drainage
  13. ear pain
  14. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  15. inability to have or keep an erection
  16. increased watering of the mouth
  17. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  18. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  19. pimples
  20. redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  21. sensation of spinning
  22. skin rash, encrusted, scaly and oozing
  23. sleeplessness
  24. sluggishness
  25. stopping of menstrual bleeding
  26. swelling of the breasts or unusual milk production
  27. swelling of the breasts or breast soreness in both females and males
  28. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  29. tenderness in the stomach area
  30. toothache
  31. unable to sleep
  32. unexpected or excess milk flow from breasts
  33. voice changes
  34. weight gain
  35. weight loss

Incidence not known

  1. Hair loss or thinning of the hair
