Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Difficulty with speaking
  2. drooling
  3. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  4. increase in body movements
  5. loss of balance control
  6. muscle trembling, jerking, or stiffness
  7. shuffling walk
  8. stiffness of the limbs
  9. twisting movements of the body
  10. uncontrolled movements, especially of the face, neck, and back

Less common

  1. Chest pain
  2. cold sweats
  3. confusion
  4. cough
  5. difficulty with swallowing
  6. dizziness
  7. excessive muscle tone
  8. fainting
  9. inability to move the eyes
  10. increased blinking or spasms of the eyelid
  11. increased blood pressure
  12. mask-like face
  13. muscle tension or tightness
  14. pain in the arms or legs
  15. slow heartbeat
  16. slowed movements
  17. slurred speech
  18. sticking out of the tongue when not meaning to
  19. tic-like (jerky) movements of the head, face, mouth, and neck
  20. trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands
  21. tremors
  22. trouble with breathing, speaking, or swallowing
  23. uncontrolled twisting movements of the neck, trunk, arms, or legs
  24. unusual facial expressions
  25. unusual tiredness or weakness

Incidence not known

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blood in the urine
  3. bloody nose
  4. decrease in the frequency of urination
  5. decrease in urine volume
  6. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  7. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  8. heavier menstrual periods
  9. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  10. lip smacking or puckering
  11. loss of bladder control
  12. mimicry of speech or movements
  13. peculiar postures or movements, mannerisms, or grimacing
  14. painful or prolonged erection of the penis
  15. painful urination
  16. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  17. puffing of cheeks
  18. rapid or worm-like movements of the tongue
  19. severe constipation
  20. severe sleepiness
  21. severe vomiting
  22. skin rash
  23. stomach pain
  24. uncontrolled chewing movements
  25. uncontrolled movements of the arms and legs

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Absent, missed, or irregular menstrual periods
  2. difficulty having a bowel movement
  3. fear or nervousness
  4. headache
  5. inability to sit still
  6. nausea
  7. need to keep moving
  8. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  9. stopping of menstrual bleeding
  10. vomiting
  11. weight gain

Less common

  1. Back pain
  2. belching
  3. blurred vision
  4. changes in appetite
  5. dry mouth
  6. fever
  7. heartburn
  8. indigestion
  9. lack or loss of strength
  10. muscle aches
  11. sore throat
  12. stomach discomfort or upset
  13. stuffy or runny nose
  14. swelling or soreness of the breasts in both females and males
  15. swollen tongue
  16. unexpected or excess milk flow from breasts
  17. upper stomach pain

Incidence not known

  1. Sleepwalking
