Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. chills
  4. dark urine
  5. dizziness
  6. fever
  7. headache
  8. itching
  9. light-colored stools
  10. loss of appetite
  11. nausea
  12. rash
  13. unpleasant breath odor
  14. unusual tiredness or weakness
  15. vomiting of blood
  16. yellow eyes or skin

Rare

  1. Cough or hoarseness
  2. fever with or without chills
  3. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  4. lower back or side pain
  5. painful or difficult urination
  6. sore throat
  7. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  8. unusual bleeding or bruising

Incidence not known

  1. Back, leg, or stomach pains
  2. bleeding gums
  3. bloating
  4. blood in the urine or stools
  5. blue lips and fingernails
  6. blurred vision
  7. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  8. chest pain or discomfort
  9. clay-colored stools
  10. cloudy urine
  11. clumsiness
  12. confusion
  13. constipation
  14. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  15. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  16. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  17. difficult or labored breathing
  18. difficult or painful urination
  19. difficult, fast, noisy breathing, sometimes with wheezing
  20. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  21. difficulty with swallowing
  22. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  23. drowsiness
  24. dry mouth
  25. extremely shallow or slow breathing
  26. fainting
  27. fast or deep breathing
  28. fast, slow, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat
  29. feeling of warmth
  30. general body swelling
  31. increased sweating
  32. increased thirst
  33. indigestion
  34. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  35. lightheadedness
  36. muscle aches
  37. muscle tremors
  38. muscle weakness
  39. nervousness
  40. noisy breathing
  41. nosebleeds
  42. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  43. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  44. pale skin
  45. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  46. pounding in the ears
  47. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  48. rapid, deep or shallow breathing
  49. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  50. restlessness
  51. seizures
  52. severe constipation
  53. severe sleepiness
  54. severe vomiting
  55. skin blisters
  56. skin rash, hives, or welts
  57. sleepiness
  58. sore throat
  59. stomach cramps
  60. sunken eyes
  61. sweating
  62. swelling of the face, fingers, lower legs, or ankles
  63. thirst
  64. tightness in the chest
  65. tiredness
  66. vomiting
  67. weakness or heaviness of the legs
  68. weight gain

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Bluish lips or skin
  2. change in consciousness
  3. cold, clammy skin
  4. extreme sleepiness
  5. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  6. loss of consciousness
  7. low blood pressure or pulse
  8. slow breathing
  9. unconsciousness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. agitation
  3. bad, unusual or unpleasant (after) taste
  4. belching
  5. change in taste
  6. cold sweats
  7. constricted, pinpoint, or small pupils (black part of the eye)
  8. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  9. cool, pale skin
  10. depression
  11. diarrhea
  12. difficulty with moving
  13. disturbed color perception
  14. double vision
  15. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  16. false or unusual sense of well-being
  17. flushed, dry skin
  18. fruit-like breath odor
  19. full feeling
  20. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  21. halos around lights
  22. hearing loss
  23. heartburn
  24. increased hunger
  25. increased urination
  26. indigestion
  27. joint pain
  28. lack or loss of strength
  29. muscle cramps or spasms
  30. muscle pain or stiffness
  31. night blindness
  32. nightmares
  33. overbright appearance of lights
  34. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  35. seizures
  36. shakiness
  37. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  38. slurred speech
  39. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  40. sweating
  41. swollen joints
  42. thirst
  43. trouble sleeping
  44. tunnel vision
  45. unexplained weight loss
  46. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness
