Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Phlegm-producing cough
  2. wheezing

Rare

  1. Abdominal or stomach cramps or tenderness
  2. arm, back, or jaw pain
  3. bloating
  4. chest pain or discomfort
  5. diarrhea, watery and severe, which may also be bloody
  6. drooling
  7. facial swelling
  8. fast or irregular heartbeat
  9. hoarseness
  10. increased thirst
  11. pain
  12. shortness of breath
  13. unusual weight loss

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. convulsions (seizures)
  3. dark urine
  4. difficulty with swallowing
  5. fainting
  6. fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  7. hives or welts
  8. itching, puffiness, or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  9. joint or muscle pain
  10. light-colored stools
  11. loss of bladder control
  12. loss of consciousness
  13. muscle spasm or jerking of all extremities
  14. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  15. red, irritated eyes
  16. skin rash or itching over the entire body
  17. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  18. sweating
  19. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  20. yellow eyes and skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Diarrhea
  2. nausea
  3. vomiting

Less common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. bloody nose or unexplained nosebleeds (occurs mainly in children)
  3. burning, dry, or itching eyes (mainly in children)
  4. dizziness
  5. ear disorder (occurs mainly in children)
  6. excessive tearing of the eyes (mainly in children)
  7. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye or eyelid (mainly in children)
  8. trouble with sleeping

Rare

  1. Pale skin
  2. troubled breathing
  3. unusual bleeding or bruising

Incidence not known

  1. blurred vision
  2. cracked, dry, or scaly skin
  3. dry mouth
  4. flushed, dry skin
  5. mood or mental changes
  6. skin rash that is encrusted, scaly, and oozing
