Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Rare

  1. Unexplained fever shortly after starting to take this medicine

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

Signs and symptoms of too much potassium loss

  1. Dry mouth
  2. increased thirst
  3. irregular heartbeats
  4. muscle cramps or pain
  5. nausea or vomiting
  6. unusual tiredness or weakness
  7. weak pulse

Less common

  1. Mental depression or anxiety
  2. nightmares or unusually vivid dreams

Rare

  1. Cough or hoarseness
  2. dark or amber urine
  3. diarrhea or stomach cramps (severe or continuing)
  4. fever, chills, troubled breathing, and fast heartbeat
  5. general feeling of discomfort or illness or weakness
  6. joint pain
  7. lower back or side pain
  8. painful or difficult urination
  9. pale stools
  10. skin rash, hives, or itching
  11. stomach pain (severe) with nausea and vomiting
  12. tiredness or weakness after having taken this medicine for several weeks (continuing)
  13. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Dizziness or light-headedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position
  2. drowsiness
  3. dryness of mouth
  4. headache

Less common

  1. Decreased sexual ability or interest in sex
  2. diarrhea
  3. increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight (skin rash, itching, redness or other discoloration of skin or severe sunburn after exposure to sunlight)
  4. loss of appetite
  5. numbness, tingling, pain, or weakness in hands or feet
  6. slow heartbeat
  7. stuffy nose
  8. swelling of breasts or unusual milk production
