Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Skin rash, redness, swelling, or itching

Less common

  1. Constipation (severe)
  2. nausea or vomiting
  3. shakiness or trembling
  4. seizures (convulsions)
  5. unusual excitement
  6. weight loss

Rare

  1. Breast enlargement—in males and females
  2. confusion (especially in the elderly)
  3. difficulty in urinating
  4. fainting
  5. hallucinations (seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there)
  6. inappropriate secretion of milk—in females
  7. irregular heartbeat (pounding, racing, skipping)
  8. sore throat and fever
  9. swelling of testicles
  10. yellow eyes or skin

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Convulsions (seizures)
  2. dizziness (severe)
  3. drowsiness (severe)
  4. fast or irregular heartbeat
  5. fever
  6. muscle stiffness or weakness (severe)
  7. restlessness or agitation
  8. trouble in breathing
  9. vomiting

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. decreased sexual ability
  3. dizziness or lightheadedness (especially in the elderly)
  4. drowsiness
  5. dryness of mouth
  6. headache
  7. increased or decreased sexual drive
  8. tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Constipation (mild)
  2. diarrhea
  3. heartburn
  4. increased appetite and weight gain
  5. increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight
  6. increased sweating
  7. trouble in sleeping
  8. weight loss

After you stop using this medicine, it may still produce some side effects that need attention. During this period of time, check with your doctor immediately if you notice the following side effects:
