Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. diarrhea
  4. heartburn
  5. indigestion
  6. nausea
  7. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  8. vomiting

Rare

  1. Abdominal or stomach cramping, burning, or tenderness
  2. back or leg pains
  3. bleeding gums
  4. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  5. bloody or black, tarry stools
  6. blue lips and fingernails
  7. blurred vision
  8. breast enlargement and tenderness
  9. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  10. burning upper abdominal or stomach pain
  11. canker sores
  12. change in consciousness
  13. change in hearing
  14. chest pain, discomfort, or burning
  15. clay colored stools
  16. cloudy or bloody urine
  17. confusion
  18. continuing diarrhea
  19. cough or hoarseness
  20. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  21. cracks in the skin
  22. dark urine
  23. decreased appetite
  24. decreased vision or any change in vision
  25. depression
  26. difficult or labored breathing
  27. difficulty with swallowing
  28. dilated neck veins
  29. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position
  30. double vision
  31. dry mouth
  32. extreme fatigue
  33. false sense of well-being
  34. feeling of unreality
  35. feeling of warmth
  36. fever with or without chills
  37. flushed, dry skin
  38. fruit-like breath odor
  39. general body swelling
  40. greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
  41. hair loss
  42. headache
  43. heavier menstrual periods
  44. increased hunger
  45. increased sweating
  46. increased thirst
  47. increased urination
  48. irregular breathing
  49. irritation and swelling of the eye
  50. jerky movements of the head, face, mouth, and neck
  51. joint pain
  52. large, flat, blue or purplish patches in the skin
  53. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  54. loss of appetite
  55. loss of balance control
  56. loss of bladder control
  57. loss of consciousness
  58. loss of hearing
  59. loss of heat from the body
  60. lower back or side pain
  61. mask-like face
  62. mood swings
  63. muscle aches, pains, or weakness
  64. muscle spasm or jerking of all extremities
  65. nervousness
  66. noisy, rattling breathing
  67. nosebleeds
  68. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  69. pain in the ankles or knees
  70. pain or discomfort in the upper stomach or throat
  71. pain with swallowing
  72. painful or difficult urination
  73. painful, red lumps under the skin, mostly on the legs
  74. pale skin
  75. persistent bleeding or oozing from puncture sites, mouth, or nose
  76. personality changes
  77. pinpoint red or purple spots on the skin
  78. pounding in the ears
  79. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  80. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  81. red, irritated eyes
  82. red, swollen skin
  83. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
  84. scaly skin
  85. seeing double
  86. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  87. seizures
  88. sense of detachment from self or body
  89. severe constipation
  90. severe mental changes
  91. severe or continuing stomach pain
  92. shuffling walk
  93. skin rash, hives or welts, itching
  94. slow, fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  95. slowed movements
  96. slurred speech
  97. small red or purple spots on the skin
  98. sore throat
  99. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or tongue or inside the mouth
  100. stiffness of the arms and legs
  101. sudden loss of consciousness
  102. swelling of the breasts or breast soreness in both females and males
  103. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  104. swollen or painful glands
  105. tightness in the chest
  106. trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands
  107. troubled breathing at rest
  108. troubled breathing with exertion
  109. unexplained weight loss
  110. unpleasant breath odor
  111. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  112. unusual bleeding or bruising
  113. unusual tiredness or weakness
  114. vaginal bleeding
  115. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  116. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet
  117. weight gain
  118. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Confusion about identity, place, and time
  2. severe headache
  3. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Mild headache

Less common

  1. Continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  2. difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  3. discouragement
  4. feeling sad or empty
  5. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  6. hearing loss
  7. irritability
  8. loss of interest or pleasure
  9. sleepiness
  10. trouble with concentrating

Rare

  1. Anxiety
  2. bloated or full feeling
  3. changes in patterns and rhythms of speech
  4. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  5. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  6. involuntary muscle movements
  7. lightheadedness
  8. passing gas
  9. sensation of spinning
  10. tiredness
  11. trouble sleeping
  12. trouble with speaking

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
