Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Burning sensation of the skin
  2. itching skin
  3. scaly rash
  4. skin irritation

Incidence not known

  1. Backache
  2. blindness
  3. blistering, burning, crusting, dryness, or flaking of the skin
  4. blurred vision
  5. burning, itching, and pain in the hairy areas, pus at the root of the hair
  6. burning and itching of the skin with pinhead-sized red blisters
  7. darkening of the skin
  8. decreased vision
  9. diarrhea
  10. dizziness
  11. dry mouth
  12. eye pain
  13. facial hair growth in females
  14. fainting
  15. fractures
  16. fruit-like breath odor
  17. full or round face, neck, or trunk
  18. headache
  19. increased hunger or thirst
  20. increase urination
  21. increased hair growth on the forehead, back, arms, and legs
  22. irritability
  23. lightening of the normal skin color
  24. lightening of treated areas of the dark skin
  25. loss of appetite
  26. loss of sexual desire or ability
  27. menstrual irregularities
  28. mental depression
  29. muscle wasting
  30. nausea
  31. reddish purple lines on the arms, face, legs, trunk, or groin
  32. redness and scaling around the mouth
  33. severe redness, soreness, or swelling of the skin
  34. softening of the skin
  35. stomach pain
  36. sweating
  37. tearing
  38. thinning of the skin with easy bruising, especially when used on the face or where the skin folds together (eg, between the fingers)
  39. thinning, weakness, or wasting away of the skin
  40. trouble breathing
  41. unexplained weight loss
  42. unusual tiredness or weakness
  43. vomiting

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Flushing or redness of the skin
  2. unusually warm skin

Rare

  1. Acne, pimples
  2. raised, dark red, wart-like spots on the skin, especially when used on the face
