Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Arm, back, or jaw pain
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. blood in the urine or stools
  4. chest pain or discomfort
  5. chest tightness or heaviness
  6. constipation
  7. cough or hoarseness
  8. coughing or spitting up blood
  9. fast or irregular heartbeat
  10. fever or chills
  11. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  12. lower back or side pain
  13. nausea
  14. pain
  15. painful, burning, or difficult urination
  16. pale skin
  17. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  18. shortness of breath
  19. sneezing
  20. sore throat
  21. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  22. stomach pain, severe
  23. sweating
  24. swelling
  25. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  26. thickening of bronchial secretions
  27. troubled breathing
  28. unusual bleeding or bruising
  29. unusual tiredness or weakness
  30. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  31. wheezing

Less common

  1. Agitation
  2. aneurysm
  3. bleeding gums
  4. blurred vision
  5. confusion
  6. decreased urine output
  7. difficulty in breathing or swallowing
  8. dilated neck veins
  9. dizziness
  10. extreme fatigue
  11. fainting
  12. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  13. headache
  14. increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding
  15. irregular breathing
  16. loss of hearing
  17. nosebleeds
  18. numbness or tingling in the fingers, toes, or face
  19. pain, redness, or swelling in the arm or leg
  20. paralysis
  21. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  22. seizures
  23. slurred speech
  24. sudden and severe inability to speak
  25. temporary blindness
  26. weakness in the arm or leg on one side of the body, sudden and severe
  27. weight gain

Rare

  1. Blindness
  2. continuing vomiting
  3. dark-colored urine
  4. drowsiness
  5. frequent urination
  6. hives
  7. itching
  8. light-colored stools
  9. loss of appetite
  10. loss of consciousness
  11. lower abdominal cramping
  12. muscle tremors
  13. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  14. rapid, deep breathing
  15. restlessness
  16. skin rash
  17. stomach pain
  18. trouble speaking, thinking, or walking
  19. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Abdominal pain
  2. bladder pain
  3. body aches or pain
  4. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, “pins and needles”, or tingling feelings
  5. cloudy urine
  6. congestion
  7. diarrhea
  8. difficulty in moving
  9. dry mouth or throat
  10. flushed, dry skin
  11. frequent urge to urinate
  12. fruit-like breath odor
  13. increased hunger
  14. increased thirst
  15. increased urination
  16. joint pain
  17. muscle aching or cramping
  18. muscle pains or stiffness
  19. runny nose
  20. swollen joints
  21. trouble in swallowing
  22. voice changes
  23. weight loss

Less common

  1. Abdominal fullness
  2. bluish color of skin
  3. changes in skin color
  4. cracked lips
  5. dandruff
  6. decrease in height
  7. decreased urination
  8. difficulty in sleeping
  9. discouragement
  10. feeling sad or empty
  11. gaseous abdominal pain
  12. heartburn
  13. irritability
  14. loss of interest or pleasure
  15. lightheadedness
  16. oily skin
  17. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  18. rapid breathing
  19. recurrent fever
  20. stuffy nose
  21. sunken eye
  22. trouble concentrating
  23. wrinkled skin
