Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Stomach cramps or pain

Less common

  1. Back or leg pains
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blistering, peeling, loosening of skin
  4. bloody or black, tarry stools
  5. bloody or cloudy urine
  6. blurred or loss of vision
  7. burning feeling in chest or stomach
  8. burning while urinating
  9. clay-colored stools
  10. constipation
  11. cough or hoarseness
  12. cracks in the skin
  13. dark-colored urine
  14. diarrhea
  15. difficult or painful urination
  16. difficulty breathing
  17. difficulty swallowing
  18. disturbed color perception
  19. dizziness
  20. double vision
  21. facial swelling
  22. fast heartbeat
  23. feeling of warmth
  24. fever with or without chills
  25. flu-like symptoms
  26. general body swelling
  27. greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
  28. halos around lights
  29. headache
  30. hives, itching, skin rash
  31. increased blood pressure
  32. increased thirst
  33. indigestion
  34. joint or muscle pain
  35. large, hive-like swelling on face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, sex organs
  36. light-colored stools
  37. loss of appetite
  38. loss of heat from the body
  39. lower back or side pain
  40. muscle aches, pains, or weakness
  41. nausea or vomiting
  42. night blindness
  43. noisy breathing
  44. nosebleeds
  45. overbright appearance of lights
  46. pale skin
  47. pinpoint red spots on skin
  48. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips or tongue
  49. red, irritated eyes
  50. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
  51. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  52. red, swollen skin
  53. scaly skin
  54. severe or continuing stomach pain
  55. sores, ulcers, or white spots in mouth or on lips
  56. sore throat
  57. stomach upset, tenderness
  58. swelling of the face, fingers, feet or lower legs
  59. swollen lymph nodes
  60. tightness in chest
  61. trouble breathing
  62. tunnel vision
  63. unpleasant breath odor
  64. unusual bleeding or bruising
  65. unusual tiredness or weakness
  66. upper right stomach pain
  67. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  68. weight gain
  69. yellow eyes or skin

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Change in consciousness
  2. confusion about identity, place, and time
  3. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in ears
  4. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  5. deep or fast breathing with dizziness
  6. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  7. hearing loss
  8. loss of consciousness
  9. numbness of feet, hands, and around mouth
  10. severe sleepiness
  11. sweating

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. heartburn
  4. indigestion
  5. stomach discomfort or upset

Less common

  1. Bloated, full feeling
  2. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  3. discouragement
  4. dry mucous membranes
  5. excess air or gas in stomach or intestines
  6. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  7. feeling sad or empty
  8. increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight
  9. irritability
  10. lack or loss of strength
  11. lightheadedness
  12. loss of interest or pleasure
  13. mood or mental changes
  14. nervousness
  15. passing gas
  16. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  17. sensation of spinning
  18. severe sunburn
  19. sleeplessness
  20. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  21. tiredness
  22. trouble concentrating
  23. trouble sleeping
  24. unable to sleep
  25. weight loss
