Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blood in the urine or stools
  4. chills
  5. cough
  6. difficult or labored breathing
  7. fever
  8. lower back or side pain
  9. painful or difficult urination
  10. pale skin
  11. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  12. shortness of breath
  13. sore throat
  14. swelling of the hands, ankles, feet, or lower legs
  15. tightness in the chest
  16. troubled breathing with exertion
  17. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  18. unusual bleeding or bruising
  19. unusual tiredness or weakness
  20. wheezing

Less common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain or tenderness
  2. agitation
  3. chest pain or discomfort
  4. clay-colored stools
  5. cough with mucus
  6. confusion
  7. dark urine
  8. decreased appetite
  9. decreased urination
  10. depression
  11. diarrhea
  12. dizziness
  13. dry mouth
  14. fainting
  15. fast or irregular heartbeat
  16. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  17. headache
  18. hives
  19. hoarseness
  20. hostility
  21. increased sweating
  22. increased thirst
  23. irritation
  24. itching
  25. joint pain, stiffness or swelling
  26. lightheadedness
  27. loss of appetite
  28. muscle aches, pains, or twitching
  29. nausea or vomiting
  30. nervousness
  31. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  32. rapid breathing
  33. rapid weight gain
  34. redness of the skin
  35. runny nose
  36. seizures
  37. shivering
  38. skin rash
  39. sneezing
  40. sunken eyes
  41. swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, hands, or feet
  42. thirst
  43. trouble sleeping
  44. trouble swallowing
  45. weakness or heaviness of the legs
  46. wrinkled skin

Rare

  1. Anxiety
  2. blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin
  3. bloating
  4. blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  5. chest pain, possibly moving to the left arm, neck, or shoulder
  6. constipation
  7. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  8. difficult, noisy breathing, sometimes with wheezing
  9. indigestion
  10. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  11. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  12. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips or tongue
  13. red, irritated eyes
  14. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  15. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Back pain
  2. difficulty with moving
  3. lack or loss of strength
  4. muscle stiffness
  5. stuffy nose

Less common

  1. Blemishes on the skin
  2. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  3. change in taste
  4. hearing loss
  5. loss of taste
  6. muscle cramping
  7. pimples
  8. ringing, buzzing, or other unexplained noise in the ears that continues
  9. stomach upset
  10. tenderness in the stomach area

Rare

  1. Flaking and falling off of the skin
