Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Cough
  2. dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting
  3. fever (slight)
  4. numbness or tingling in the fingers or toes
  5. painful breathing
  6. sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  7. trembling or shaking of the hands
  8. trouble with walking
  9. unusual and uncontrolled movements of the body
  10. weakness of the arms or legs

Less common

  1. Blue-gray coloring of the skin on the face, neck, and arms
  2. blurred vision or blue-green halos seen around objects
  3. coldness
  4. dry eyes
  5. dry, puffy skin
  6. fast or irregular heartbeat
  7. nervousness
  8. pain and swelling in the scrotum
  9. sensitivity of the eyes to light
  10. sensitivity to heat
  11. slow heartbeat
  12. sweating
  13. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  14. trouble with sleeping
  15. unusual tiredness
  16. weight gain or loss

Rare

  1. Skin rash
  2. yellow eyes or skin

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. back, leg, or stomach pains
  3. bleeding gums
  4. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  5. bloating
  6. blood in the urine
  7. bloody, black, or tarry stools
  8. blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  9. blurred or double vision
  10. chest pain
  11. chills
  12. clay-colored stools
  13. confusion
  14. confusion as to time, place, or person
  15. coughing or spitting up blood
  16. cracks in the skin
  17. dark urine
  18. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  19. decreased urine output
  20. depression
  21. diarrhea
  22. difficult or labored breathing
  23. difficult urination
  24. dry cough
  25. eye pain
  26. fast heartbeat
  27. general body swelling
  28. high fever
  29. holding false beliefs that cannot be change by facts
  30. hostility
  31. inability to have or keep an erection
  32. indigestion
  33. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  34. irritability
  35. itching
  36. joint or muscle pain
  37. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  38. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  39. loss of consciousness
  40. loss of heat from the body
  41. lower back or side pain
  42. mood or mental change
  43. muscle cramps, spasms, twitching, pain, or stiffness
  44. no breathing
  45. noisy breathing
  46. nosebleeds
  47. pain in the abdomen, groin, or scrotum
  48. pain or burning with urination
  49. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  50. pale skin
  51. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  52. rapid weight gain
  53. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  54. red, irritated eyes
  55. red, swollen skin
  56. scaly skin
  57. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  58. seizures
  59. severe headache
  60. severe sleepiness
  61. sneezing
  62. sore throat
  63. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in mouth
  64. stomach pain
  65. swelling of the face, ankles, or hands
  66. swelling of the scrotum
  67. swollen or painful glands
  68. tightness in the chest
  69. troubled breathing
  70. unpleasant breath odor
  71. unusual bleeding or bruising
  72. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness or feeling of sluggishness
  73. unusual excitement, nervousness, or restlessness
  74. vomiting of blood

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Constipation
  2. headache
  3. loss of appetite
  4. nausea
  5. vomiting

Less common

  1. Bitter or metallic taste
  2. decrease in sexual interest
  3. decreased sexual ability in males
  4. feeling of warmth
  5. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
