Doctors at Mayo Clinic are respected for the experience in diagnosing and treating soft tissue sarcomas. Each year, Mayo Clinic doctors care for more than 2,400 people with soft tissue sarcoma, including very rare types.

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and Mayo Clinic in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, are ranked among the Best Hospitals for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report. Mayo Clinic Children's Center in Rochester is ranked the No. 1 hospital in Minnesota, and the five-state region of Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2023–2024 "Best Children's Hospitals" rankings.

Your Mayo Clinic care team

At Mayo Clinic, a multidisciplinary team works together to care for people with soft tissue sarcoma. This team may include specialists in:

  • Orthopedic, general and plastic surgery.
  • Medical, surgical and radiation oncology.
  • Physical and occupational rehabilitation.
  • Psychology, social work and nutrition.
  • Other specialties as needed, such as urology, pediatric urology and others.

Advanced diagnosis and treatment

Certain subtypes of soft tissue sarcoma are susceptible to targeted therapies, so a precise diagnosis is crucial for determining exactly the right treatment for you. Mayo Clinic pathologists have the necessary expertise in diagnosing these rare types of cancer. This expertise may not be available in many other medical centers.

The range of treatments offered to people with soft tissue sarcoma includes several types of surgery. These types include minimally invasive surgery and limb-sparing surgery. The latest radiation therapy techniques also are offered, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), brachytherapy, proton therapy and intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT). Chemotherapy and targeted therapy also are available.
