Becoming a Patient at Mayo Clinic in Rochester

Thousands of patients come to Mayo Clinic in Rochester every day for diagnosis or treatment of a medical problem. Patients can make their own appointments or be referred by a physician.

Most patients are treated on an outpatient basis, meaning their evaluation, tests and treatments are done in the Clinic and they return to their home or lodging at the end of the day. About 20 percent of patients require hospitalization in one of the two Mayo hospitals in Rochester.

Facilities

Mayo Clinic in Rochester is one of the largest medical complexes in the world. Mayo's extended downtown campus comprises about 30 buildings and 5 parking ramps. Outpatients are seen in several locations including the Mayo Building, the Gonda Building, the Baldwin Building and the Hilton Building

Hospitals in Rochester include the 794-bed Rochester Methodist Hospital, the 1157-bed Saint Marys Hospital and the 85-bed Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital.

Fewer than 20 percent of Mayo Clinic's patients in Minnesota require hospitalization. Patients who require hospitalization are cared for by Mayo Clinic physicians at one of our three hospitals.
