Patient Satisfaction

How Mayo Clinic measures patient satisfaction

Mayo Clinic has regularly conducted patient satisfaction surveys for the past 25 years.

This feedback is used to understand patients' experiences and to learn about opportunities to improve care at Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Health System.

Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS)

The HCAHPS is a survey that patients take to rate their experiences with various aspects of hospital care.

The graph below shows the percentage of Mayo Clinic patients indicating several aspects of their care "always" took place in a specific hospital. Aspects of their care surveyed included good communication with doctors and nurses, well controlled pain, cleanliness of their rooms and bathrooms, and quiet areas around their rooms.

Patient satisfaction — outpatient

Patients are also surveyed to rate their outpatient experience.
