Dr. Philip W. Tipton is an assistant professor and senior associate consultant in the Department of Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, where he has served since 2023. As a physician working in both the Movement Disorders and Behavioral Neurology divisions, Dr. Tipton treats patients with a variety of symptoms effecting movement and cognition with a particular emphasis on gait disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, e.g., Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal lobar degeneration. Dr. Tipton also works in the MCF Movement Laboratory where he conducts neurophysiological assessments to characterize various movement abnormalities, e.g., tremor. He also runs the MCF Gait Laboratory to provide quantitative analyses of walking and balance to facilitate diagnosis of complex neurological diseases.

Dr. Tipton provides a wide range of specialized treatments, such botulinum toxin injections for the treatment of tremor, hemifacial spasm, blepharospasm, dystonia, spasticity, and sialorrhea. He also provides deep brain stimulation to treat essential tremor, Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and tic disorder.

Dr. Tipton's research activities are broad. He is involved in various research and clinical trials through the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. His primary research interests include leveraging various technologies to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders with a particular emphasis on tremors, complex gait disorders, and deep brain stimulation.

Dr. Tipton regularly educates medical students, residents, and fellows and currently serves as the Associate Program Director for the Mayo Clinic Florida Behavioral Neurology Fellowship. He is passionate about providing accurate medical information to the public and frequently lectures locally and abroad.
