Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Agitation
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. blurred vision
  4. chest pain
  5. chills
  6. coma
  7. confusion
  8. convulsions
  9. cough
  10. depression
  11. difficult or labored breathing
  12. dizziness
  13. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  14. fever
  15. irregular heartbeat
  16. irritability
  17. lack or loss of strength
  18. lethargy
  19. lower back or side pain
  20. muscle pain or cramps
  21. muscle trembling or twitching
  22. nausea or vomiting
  23. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  24. painful or difficult urination
  25. pale skin
  26. rapid weight gain
  27. seizures
  28. shaking of the hands, arms, feet, legs, or face
  29. skin rash, cracks in the skin at the corners of the mouth, or soreness or redness around the fingernails and toenails
  30. sore throat
  31. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or mouth
  32. stupor
  33. sudden sweating
  34. swollen glands
  35. tightness in the chest
  36. trouble breathing with exercise
  37. unusual bleeding or bruising
  38. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  2. muscle cramps in the hands, arms, feet, legs, or face
  3. muscle spasms
  4. neck pain
  5. pounding in the ears
  6. rapid breathing
  7. sensation of spinning
  8. slow or fast heartbeat
  9. sunken eyes
  10. tingling of the hands or feet
  11. tremor

Incidence not known

  1. Blurred vision or other change in vision
  2. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  3. decreased vision
  4. eye pain
  5. eye tenderness
  6. heavy jaw feeling
  7. increased blood pressure
  8. increased tearing
  9. increased thirst
  10. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
  11. loosening of a tooth
  12. pain, swelling, or numbness in the mouth or jaw
  13. redness of the eye
  14. sensitivity of the eye to light
  15. severe eye pain
  16. swelling of the face, hands, fingers, lower legs, or ankles
  17. weight gain

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. back pain
  3. bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste
  4. bladder pain
  5. blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin
  6. bloody or cloudy urine
  7. bone pain
  8. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, “pins and needles”, or tingling feelings
  9. change in taste
  10. constipation
  11. cracked lips
  12. cracked, dry, or scaly skin
  13. diarrhea
  14. difficulty with swallowing
  15. discouragement
  16. dry mouth
  17. ear congestion
  18. feeling sad or empty
  19. frequent urge to urinate
  20. hair loss or thinning hair
  21. headache
  22. hyperventilation
  23. joint pain or swollen joints
  24. loss of appetite
  25. loss of interest or pleasure
  26. loss of voice
  27. muscle stiffness or difficulty with moving
  28. nasal congestion or runny nose
  29. pain, swelling, or redness in the joints
  30. partial loss of feeling
  31. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  32. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  33. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  34. thirst
  35. trouble concentrating
  36. trouble sleeping
  37. unusually cold, shivering
  38. vomiting
  39. weight loss

Less common

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. heartburn
  4. indigestion
  5. red streaks on the skin
  6. stomach discomfort or upset
  7. swelling, tenderness, or pain at the injection site
  8. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness
  9. wrinkled skin

Rare

  1. Burning, dry, or itching eyes
  2. discharge or excessive tearing
  3. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  4. throbbing pain
