Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. chest pain, tightness, or discomfort
  3. choking
  4. confusion
  5. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  6. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  7. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  8. slow or irregular heartbeat
  9. sweating
  10. trouble breathing
  11. unable to speak
  12. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Low body temperature
  2. not breathing
  3. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  4. weak or feeble pulse

Rare

  1. Bleeding gums
  2. blood in the urine or stools
  3. body aches or pain
  4. chills
  5. cough
  6. coughing up blood
  7. decrease in frequency of urination
  8. decrease in urine volume
  9. difficulty in swallowing
  10. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  11. extremely shallow or slow breathing
  12. eye pain
  13. fainting
  14. general feeling of illness
  15. headache
  16. hoarseness
  17. increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding
  18. nausea
  19. noisy breathing
  20. nosebleeds
  21. painful urination
  22. paralysis
  23. pinpoint red spots on skin
  24. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  25. red or dark brown urine
  26. red or black, tarry stools
  27. sore throat
  28. stuffy or runny nose
  29. tender, swollen glands in the neck
  30. trouble in swallowing
  31. unusual bleeding or bruising
  32. voice changes

Incidence not known

  1. Confusion as to time, place, or person
  2. dark urine
  3. hallucinations
  4. high fever
  5. hives, itching, or skin rash
  6. holding false beliefs that cannot be changed by fact
  7. increased blood pressure
  8. increased thirst
  9. light-colored stools
  10. lower back or side pain
  11. no blood pressure or pulse
  12. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  13. restlessness
  14. rigid muscles
  15. seizures
  16. shakiness
  17. sleepiness
  18. slow to respond
  19. slurred speech
  20. stomach pain, continuing
  21. stopping of the heart
  22. swelling of the face, fingers, lower legs
  23. unconsciousness
  24. unpleasant breath odor
  25. unusual excitement, nervousness, or restlessness
  26. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  27. vomiting of blood
  28. yellow eyes and skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Shivering
  2. sleepiness or unusual drowsiness

Less common

  1. Clumsiness
  2. problems with movement
  3. watering of the mouth

Incidence not known

  1. Burning, dry, or itching eyes
  2. change in vision
  3. discharge, excessive tearing
  4. hiccups
  5. impaired vision
  6. lack or loss of strength
  7. redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of eyelid
