Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

1. Bloating
2. bloody or black, tarry stools
3. burning upper stomach pain
4. cloudy urine
5. constipation
6. decrease in urine output or decrease in urine-concentrating ability
7. headache
8. heartburn
9. indigestion
10. itching skin or rash
11. loss of appetite
12. nausea or vomiting
13. pale skin
14. severe stomach pain, cramping, or burning
15. severe and continuing nausea
16. swelling
17. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
18. trouble breathing
19. unusual bleeding or bruising
20. unusual tiredness or weakness
21. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
22. weight changes

Less common

1. Bleeding gums
2. blood in the urine
3. bloody nose
4. blurred vision
5. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
6. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
7. chest pain or tightness
8. clay-colored stools
9. confusion
10. cough or hoarseness
11. dark urine
12. difficult or labored breathing
13. difficult, burning, or painful urination
14. difficulty with swallowing
15. dilated neck veins
16. dizziness
17. fainting
18. fever or chills
19. flushing or redness of the skin
20. frequent urge to urinate
21. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
22. increased thirst
23. increased volume of pale, dilute urine
24. large, flat, blue, or purplish patches in the skin
25. lightheadedness
26. lower back or side pain
27. nervousness
28. noisy breathing
29. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
30. pain or burning in the throat
31. peeling of the skin
32. pinpoint red or purple spots on the skin
33. pounding in the ears
34. rapid, shallow breathing
35. redness or other discoloration of the skin
36. redness, swelling, or soreness of the tongue
37. severe sunburn
38. slow, fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
39. sore throat
40. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or tongue or inside the mouth
41. stomach upset
42. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
43. swollen glands
44. tenderness in the stomach area
45. unpleasant breath odor
46. unusually warm skin
47. weakness or heaviness of the legs
48. yellow eyes or skin

Rare

1. Anxiety
2. back or leg pains
3. burning, dry, or itching eyes
4. cold sweats
5. coma
6. cracks in the skin
7. diarrhea
8. discharge or excessive tearing
9. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position
10. dry mouth
11. flushed, dry skin
12. fruit-like breath odor
13. general body swelling
14. general feeling of discomfort or illness
15. high fever
16. increased hunger
17. increased urination
18. inflammation of the joints
19. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
20. joint pain
21. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or sex organs
22. light-colored stools
23. loss of heat from the body
24. muscle aches and pains
25. nightmares
26. no blood pressure
27. no breathing
28. no pulse
29. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
30. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
31. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
32. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
33. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
34. red, irritated eyes
35. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
36. runny nose
37. scaly skin
38. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
39. seizures
40. severe headache
41. shakiness
42. shivering
43. sleepiness
44. slurred speech
45. sneezing
46. sores, welting, or blisters
47. stiff neck or back
48. stomach pain, continuing
49. suddenly sweating
50. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
51. trouble sleeping

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

1. Agitation
2. depression
3. hives
4. hostility
5. irritability
6. muscle twitching
7. pain or discomfort in the chest, upper stomach, or throat
8. rapid weight gain
9. stupor
10. swelling of the ankles or hands
11. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

1. Acid or sour stomach
2. belching
3. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
4. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
5. hearing loss
6. passing gas
7. stomach discomfort or upset

Less common

1. Feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
2. hair loss or thinning of the hair
3. lack or loss of strength
4. sensation of spinning
5. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
6. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet

Rare

1. Change in hearing
2. changes in appetite
3. inability to sit still
4. mood alterations
5. need to keep moving
6. restlessness

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
