Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bladder pain
  3. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  4. bloody or cloudy urine
  5. blurred vision
  6. body aches or pain
  7. burning, numbness, tingling, or painful sensations
  8. chills
  9. clay-colored stools
  10. confusion
  11. constipation
  12. cough
  13. dark urine
  14. decreased appetite
  15. depressed mood
  16. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  17. difficulty with breathing
  18. difficulty with moving
  19. dizziness
  20. dry mouth
  21. dry skin and hair
  22. ear congestion
  23. feeling cold
  24. fever
  25. flushing
  26. frequent urge to urinate
  27. fruit-like breath odor
  28. hair loss
  29. headache
  30. hoarseness or husky voice
  31. increased hunger
  32. increased thirst
  33. increased urination
  34. itching, skin rash
  35. joint or bone pain
  36. loss of voice
  37. lower back or side pain
  38. mood or mental changes
  39. muscle cramps, pain, and stiffness
  40. nausea
  41. neck pain
  42. nervousness
  43. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  44. painful or difficult urination
  45. pale skin
  46. pounding in the ears
  47. rapid weight gain
  48. redness, swelling, or pain of the skin
  49. runny or stuffy nose
  50. scaling of the skin on the hands and feet
  51. slow or fast heartbeat
  52. sneezing
  53. sore throat
  54. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  55. stomach cramps, pain or tenderness
  56. swelling of the face, ankles, or hands
  57. tingling of the hands or feet
  58. ulceration of the skin
  59. unsteadiness or awkwardness
  60. unusual bleeding or bruising
  61. unusual tiredness or weakness
  62. unusual weight gain or loss
  63. vomiting
  64. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet
  65. yellow eyes or skin

Less common

  1. Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  2. chest pain or discomfort
  3. decrease in urine output or decrease in urine-concentrating ability
  4. difficulty with chewing, swallowing, or talking
  5. double vision
  6. drooping eyelids
  7. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  8. inability to speak
  9. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  10. muscle weakness
  11. pain and swelling in the genitals or anal area
  12. seizures
  13. sensitivity to heat
  14. severe or sudden headache
  15. slurred speech
  16. sweating
  17. temporary blindness
  18. tenderness
  19. thickening of bronchial secretions
  20. trouble sleeping
  21. watery or bloody diarrhea
  22. weakness in the arm or leg on one side of the body, sudden and severe

Rare

  1. Back or leg pain
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  4. cracks in the skin
  5. drowsiness
  6. eye pain
  7. general body swelling
  8. indigestion
  9. joint redness or swelling
  10. joint or muscle pain
  11. light-colored stools
  12. loss of heat from the body
  13. nosebleeds
  14. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  15. pale skin
  16. red, swollen skin
  17. red irritated eyes
  18. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  19. redness of the eye
  20. scaly skin
  21. sensitivity of the eye to light
  22. swollen glands
  23. tearing
  24. upper right abdominal or stomach pain

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Cracked lips
  2. hair loss or thinning
  3. lack or loss of strength
  4. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips, tongue, or inside the mouth
  5. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
