Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Constipation
  2. depressed mood
  3. diarrhea
  4. dizziness
  5. dry skin and hair
  6. fainting
  7. fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  8. feeling cold
  9. hair loss
  10. hoarseness or husky voice
  11. loss of appetite
  12. muscle cramps and stiffness
  13. nausea
  14. severe stomach pain with nausea and vomiting
  15. stomach pain
  16. unusual tiredness or weakness
  17. vomiting
  18. weight gain

Less common

  1. Anxiety
  2. bladder pain
  3. bloody or cloudy urine
  4. blurred vision
  5. chills
  6. cold sweats
  7. collection of blood under the skin
  8. confusion
  9. cool, pale skin
  10. deep, dark purple bruise
  11. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  12. dry mouth
  13. flushed, dry skin
  14. frequent urge to urinate
  15. fruit-like breath odor
  16. headache
  17. increased hunger
  18. increased thirst
  19. increased urination
  20. itching, pain, redness, or swelling
  21. loss of consciousness
  22. lower back or side pain
  23. nervousness
  24. nightmares
  25. seizures
  26. shakiness
  27. slurred speech
  28. sweating
  29. swelling
  30. trouble breathing
  31. unexplained weight loss

Rare

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blood in vomit
  4. changes in skin color, pain, tenderness, swelling of the foot or leg
  5. chest pain or tightness
  6. cough
  7. coughing up blood
  8. dark urine
  9. decreased urine output
  10. difficulty in breathing or swallowing
  11. difficulty swallowing
  12. dilated neck veins
  13. extreme tiredness or weakness
  14. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  15. fever
  16. hives, itching, skin rash
  17. increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding
  18. irregular breathing
  19. itching, pain, redness, swelling, tenderness, or warmth on the skin
  20. light-colored stools
  21. nosebleeds
  22. pain in the groin or genitals
  23. pale skin
  24. paleness or cold feeling in the fingertips and toes
  25. paralysis
  26. pounding in the ears
  27. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  28. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  29. red or dark brown urine
  30. severe or continuing stomach pain
  31. sharp back pain just below the ribs
  32. sneezing
  33. sore throat
  34. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  35. tingling or pain in the fingers or toes when exposed to cold temperatures
  36. tremor
  37. unusual bleeding or bruising
  38. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  39. yellow eyes and skin

Incidence not known

  1. Blindness
  2. bloating
  3. clear or bloody discharge from nipple
  4. decreased vision
  5. delusions of persecution, mistrust, suspiciousness, and/or combativeness
  6. dimpling of the breast skin
  7. eye pain
  8. gaseous
  9. indigestion
  10. inverted nipple
  11. lump in the breast or under the arm
  12. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  13. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  14. persistent crusting or scaling of the nipple
  15. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  16. recurrent fever
  17. redness of swelling of the breast
  18. severe constipation
  19. severe cramping
  20. sore on the skin of the breast that does not heal
  21. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  22. stomach fullness
  23. swollen glands
  24. tearing
  25. weakness of the muscles in your face

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

  1. Anxiety
  2. blurred vision
  3. chills
  4. cold sweats
  5. coma
  6. confusion
  7. cool, pale skin
  8. depression
  9. dizziness
  10. fast heartbeat
  11. feeling of warmth
  12. headache
  13. increased hunger
  14. nausea
  15. nervousness
  16. nightmares
  17. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
  18. seizures
  19. shakiness
  20. slurred speech
  21. unusual tiredness or weakness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Abnormal stool
  2. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  3. full feeling
  4. pain, redness, stinging, swelling, tingling, or burning sensation at the injection site
  5. passing of gas

Less common

  1. Backache
  2. feeling of warmth
  3. hair loss
  4. joint pain
  5. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest

Rare

  1. Absent, missed, or irregular menstrual periods
  2. change in vision
  3. difficulty in moving
  4. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  5. hearing loss
  6. itching of the vagina or genital area
  7. joint swelling or redness
  8. loss of vision
  9. memory loss
  10. muscle pain
  11. numbness or tingling of the hands, feet, or face
  12. pain during sexual intercourse
  13. sensation of spinning
  14. stopping of menstrual bleeding
  15. swelling of the breasts or breast soreness in both females and males
  16. thick, white vaginal discharge with no odor or with a mild odor
  17. unexpected or excess milk flow from the breasts

Incidence not known

  1. Decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  2. inability to have or keep an erection
  3. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  4. unexpected or excess milk flow from the breasts
