Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Burning, tingling, numbness or pain in the hands, arms, feet, or legs
  2. cough or hoarseness
  3. diarrhea (severe)
  4. difficult or labored breathing
  5. fever or chills
  6. lower back or side pain
  7. painful or difficult urination
  8. rash (severe)
  9. sensation of pins and needles
  10. stabbing chest pain
  11. tightness in the chest

Rare

  1. Bloody or black, tarry stools
  2. blurred vision
  3. chest pain or discomfort
  4. constipation
  5. convulsions (seizures)
  6. eye irritation or redness
  7. inability to speak
  8. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  9. severe stomach pain
  10. slurred speech
  11. sudden, severe chest pain
  12. sudden, severe headache
  13. sudden, severe weakness in the arm or leg on one side of the body
  14. sweating
  15. vision changes
  16. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  3. bloody nose
  4. burning feeling in the chest or stomach
  5. burning upper abdominal or stomach pain
  6. confusion
  7. dark-colored urine
  8. darkening of the skin
  9. decreased urine output
  10. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  11. headache
  12. increased thirst
  13. irregular heartbeat
  14. lethargy
  15. light-colored stools
  16. loss of appetite
  17. mood changes
  18. muscle pain or stiffness
  19. muscle twitching
  20. nausea or vomiting
  21. rapid weight gain
  22. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  23. sore throat
  24. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  25. stomach pain, continuing
  26. stupor
  27. swelling of the face, ankles, or hands
  28. tenderness in the stomach area
  29. trouble breathing
  30. unusual tiredness or weakness
  31. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Acid or sour stomach
  2. belching
  3. blemishes on the skin
  4. bloated or full feeling
  5. bone pain
  6. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  7. diarrhea (mild)
  8. difficulty with moving
  9. dizziness
  10. dry eyes
  11. dry skin
  12. excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
  13. excessive tearing
  14. fear
  15. feeling sad or empty
  16. feeling unusually cold
  17. hair loss
  18. headache
  19. heartburn
  20. indigestion
  21. irritability
  22. itching skin
  23. joint pain
  24. loss of interest or pleasure
  25. nervousness
  26. passing gas
  27. pimples
  28. rash, mild
  29. redness, pain, or swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  30. shivering
  31. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  32. swelling
  33. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  34. swollen joints
  35. thinning of the hair
  36. tiredness
  37. trouble or inability to sleep
  38. trouble with concentrating
  39. weight loss

Less common

  1. Loosening of the fingernails
  2. redness or soreness around the fingernails

Incidence not known

  1. Brittle and loose nails
  2. discharge, excessive tearing
  3. increased hair growth, especially on the face
