Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bleeding gums
  2. blood in the urine or stools
  3. bloody, black, or tarry stools
  4. chest pain
  5. chills
  6. clay colored stools
  7. cough
  8. dark urine
  9. decreased appetite
  10. dizziness
  11. drowsiness
  12. fever
  13. headache
  14. high fever
  15. itching or skin rash
  16. lightheadedness
  17. loss of appetite
  18. nausea
  19. painful or difficult urination
  20. pale skin
  21. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  22. sore throat
  23. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  24. stomach pain or tenderness
  25. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  26. swollen glands
  27. unexplained or unusual bleeding or bruising
  28. unusual tiredness or weakness
  29. vomiting
  30. yellow eyes or skin

Rare

  1. Agitation
  2. confusion
  3. decreased urine output
  4. difficulty with swallowing
  5. fast heartbeat
  6. hives
  7. hostility
  8. irritability
  9. loss of consciousness
  10. muscle twitching
  11. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  12. rapid weight gain
  13. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  14. seizures
  15. stupor
  16. swelling of the face, ankles, or hands
  17. tightness in the chest
  18. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness

Incidence not known

  1. Cold sweats
  2. darkening of the skin
  3. decrease in the frequency of urination
  4. decrease in the urine volume
  5. difficult or troubled breathing
  6. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  7. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up from lying or sitting position
  8. fainting
  9. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  10. overactive reflexes
  11. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  12. poor coordination
  13. shivering
  14. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  15. trembling or shaking

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement
  2. relaxed and calm feeling
  3. sleepiness

Incidence not known

  1. Constricted, pinpoint, or small pupils (black part of the eye)
  2. diarrhea
  3. dry mouth
  4. gas in the stomach
  5. heartburn
