Research

Mayo Clinic doctors and scientists are studying ways to improve outcomes and quality of life for people undergoing a cystectomy. Mayo Clinic was the top recruiter and the main site of a national clinical trial comparing open cystectomy and robotic cystectomy, including cancer outcomes, surgical complications and health-related quality of life after the procedures. Learn more about urology research.

Researchers are also studying ways to improve bladder cancer diagnosis and treatment. Cancer research is conducted in coordination with the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. The Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center receives funding from the National Cancer Institute and is designated as a comprehensive cancer center — recognition for an institution's scientific excellence and multidisciplinary resources focused on cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
