Sudden or severe hyperkalemia is serious. It can be life-threatening. Symptoms may include:
- Muscle weakness.
- Weakness, numbness and tingling in the arms and legs.
- Shortness of breath.
- Chest pain.
- Irregular heart rhythms, called arrhythmias.
- Nausea or vomiting.
