Cancer education in Florida
At Mayo Clinic, education plays an important role in the success of a patient's cancer care plan. Knowledge allows Mayo Clinic patients the opportunity to actively participate in their cancer care.
Cancer education topics at Mayo Clinic include cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, coping strategies, health maintenance and caregiving. Spanish-language materials are also available.
Cancer education and quiet lounge
On the second floor of the Mangurian Building, patients will find a quiet, secluded area with lounge seating that offers cancer resources. Computers are available for information searches on a variety of cancer topics and internet access to cancer-related research including Mayo Clinic information pages, American Cancer Society (ACS) resources, and cancer information from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Pamphlets and brochures developed by Mayo Clinic and other organizations are available.
Breast cancer education
At the Breast Center in Florida, specialized educational resources include personalized instruction from a nurse educator/case manager for patients with breast concerns. Services include education, support, and breast cancer navigation at the time of diagnosis and throughout the course of treatment and extending into survivorship care. This area also has a dedicated education room with group education capabilities, books, CDs, tapes and a pamphlet library of breast cancer reference materials.
