Toothache: What you can do

By Mayo Clinic Staff

If you have a toothache, see your dentist ASAP. In the meantime, rinse your mouth with warm water and use dental floss to try to remove any food particles wedged between your teeth. Consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever to dull the ache. Don't place aspirin or another painkiller directly against your gums; it may burn your gum tissue.
