Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Accumulation of pus
  2. bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of the skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
  3. changes in skin color
  4. fever
  5. pain, tenderness, or swelling of the foot or leg
  6. stomach pain
  7. swollen, red, tender area of infection

Rare

  1. Drowsiness
  2. loss of appetite
  3. mood or mental changes
  4. muscle spasms (tetany) or twitching
  5. nausea
  6. seizures
  7. trembling
  8. unusual tiredness or weakness
  9. vomiting

Incidence not known

  1. Absence of or decrease in body movement
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. blindness
  4. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  5. bloating of the stomach
  6. bloody or cloudy urine
  7. bloody, black, or tarry stools
  8. blurred vision
  9. chest pain or tightness
  10. chills
  11. confusion
  12. constipation
  13. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  14. cough
  15. dark urine
  16. decreased urine output
  17. decreased vision
  18. diarrhea
  19. difficulty with speaking
  20. difficulty with swallowing
  21. dizziness or lightheadedness
  22. dry mouth
  23. fast heartbeat
  24. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  25. greatly decreased frequency of urination or amount of urine
  26. hearing loss
  27. hives, itching, or rash
  28. increased thirst
  29. increased watering of the mouth
  30. indigestion
  31. joint or muscle pain
  32. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  33. light-colored stools
  34. muscle cramps, pain, or stiffness
  35. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  36. painful or difficult urination
  37. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  38. pale skin
  39. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  40. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  41. red, irritated eyes
  42. sensation of spinning
  43. severe stomach cramps or pain
  44. sore throat
  45. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  46. stomach cramps or tenderness
  47. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  48. swollen glands
  49. trouble breathing
  50. unexplained bleeding or bruising
  51. watery and severe diarrhea, which may also be bloody
  52. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Headache

Less common

  1. Belching
  2. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  3. full feeling
  4. passing gas

Incidence not known

  1. Decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  2. inability to have or keep an erection
  3. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
