Descripción general
La mesenteritis esclerosante es una afección en la que el mesenterio, que es el tejido que mantiene el intestino delgado en su lugar, se inflama y forma tejido cicatricial. La afección también se llama paniculitis mesentérica. La mesenteritis esclerosante es poco común y no está claro qué la causa.
La mesenteritis esclerosante puede causar dolor abdominal, vómitos, hinchazón, diarrea y fiebre. Pero algunas personas no experimentan síntomas y es posible que nunca necesiten tratamiento.
En casos poco frecuentes, el tejido cicatricial formado por la mesenteritis esclerosante puede obstruir el paso de los alimentos a través del tracto digestivo. En este caso, es posible que necesites cirugía.
Síntomas
Los síntomas de la mesenteritis esclerosante incluyen dolor en el abdomen, vómitos, hinchazón, diarrea y fiebre. En ocasiones, es posible que la persona no presente ningún síntoma.
Factores de riesgo
Sclerosing mesenteritis is most often diagnosed in people in their 50s or 60s.
People with a history of the following conditions may be at increased risk of sclerosing mesenteritis:
- Belly surgery.
- Traumatic injury to the belly.
- Cancer or other diseases in the belly.
- Conditions called autoimmune diseases that result in the immune system attacking the body's own tissue.
Complicaciones
Some people with sclerosing mesenteritis develop complications, including:
- Blockage or irregular movement of waste in the small intestine.
- Decreased blood flow to the small intestine.
- Blood clots in the main blood vessel to the mesentery.
- Blockage of the lymphatic system in the belly.
- Kidney failure or other conditions of the urinary system.
