El compromiso de Mayo Clinic con la investigación de alergias se remonta a la década de 1950, cuando los médicos de Minnesota demostraron la utilidad de los glucocorticoides, recientemente descubiertos en ese entonces, para el tratamiento de ciertos problemas de asma y alergias.

El Laboratorio para Investigación de las Enfermedades Alérgicas investiga los mecanismos de enfermedades comunes de la piel y de las vías respiratorias, como el asma, la rinitis alérgica (fiebre del heno), la dermatitis atópica y la rinosinusitis crónica.
