Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blurred vision or other change in vision

Less common

  1. Decrease in vision, may be severe
  2. dizziness
  3. dull nervousness
  4. eye pain
  5. fainting
  6. fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
  7. itching, redness, or other irritation of eye
  8. pale skin
  9. pounding in the ears
  10. troubled breathing on exertion
  11. unusual bleeding or bruising
  12. unusual tiredness or weakness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of skin, feeling of pressure, infection, itching, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, and/or warmth at the injection site
  2. headache

Less common

  1. Back pain (during infusion of verteporfin)
  2. chills
  3. cloudy urine
  4. constipation
  5. cough
  6. decreased hearing
  7. decreased sensitivity to touch
  8. diarrhea
  9. difficult or painful urination
  10. difficulty in moving
  11. double vision
  12. dry eyes
  13. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  14. fever
  15. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  16. hoarseness
  17. increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight
  18. joint pain
  19. light headedness
  20. loss of appetite
  21. loss of strength or energy
  22. muscle pain or stiffness
  23. nausea
  24. pain, swelling, or redness in joints
  25. pelvic discomfort
  26. redness or other discoloration of skin
  27. runny nose
  28. severe sunburn
  29. shivering
  30. skin rash
  31. sore throat
  32. sweating
  33. tearing
  34. tender, swollen glands in neck
  35. throat congestion
  36. trouble in sleeping
  37. trouble in swallowing
  38. trouble sleeping
  39. varicose veins
  40. voice changes
  41. vomiting

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
