Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Difficulty with speaking
  2. dizziness or fainting
  3. fast or irregular heartbeat
  4. lack of facial expression
  5. loss of balance control
  6. mood or behavior changes
  7. restlessness or need to keep moving
  8. shuffling walk
  9. slowed movements
  10. stiffness of the arms and legs
  11. swelling or soreness of the breasts (less common in males)
  12. trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands
  13. unusual secretion of milk (rare in males)

Less common or rare

  1. Difficulty with swallowing
  2. inability to move the eyes
  3. increased blinking or spasms of the eyelid
  4. lip smacking or puckering
  5. menstrual changes
  6. muscle spasms, especially of the face, neck, or back
  7. puffing of the cheeks
  8. rapid or worm-like movements of the tongue
  9. skin rash and itching
  10. sore throat and fever
  11. swelling of the face
  12. uncontrolled chewing movements
  13. uncontrolled movements of the neck, trunk, arms, or legs, including twisting movements
  14. unusual bleeding or bruising
  15. unusual facial expressions or body positions
  16. yellow eyes or skin

Rare

  1. Convulsions (seizures)
  2. difficult or unusually fast breathing
  3. fast heartbeat or irregular pulse
  4. fever (high)
  5. high or low (irregular) blood pressure
  6. increased sweating
  7. loss of bladder control
  8. muscle stiffness (severe)

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Coma
  2. dizziness (severe)
  3. muscle trembling, jerking, or stiffness (severe)
  4. troubled breathing (severe)
  5. uncontrolled movements (severe)

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Blurred vision or other vision problems
  2. constipation
  3. dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting when getting up from a lying or sitting position
  4. drowsiness
  5. dryness of the mouth
  6. skin discoloration

Less common

  1. Decreased sexual ability
  2. diarrhea
  3. headache
  4. loss of appetite and weight
  5. mental depression
  6. nausea and vomiting
  7. tiredness or weakness
