Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. chest tightness
  3. confusion
  4. decreased urination
  5. difficult or labored breathing
  6. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  7. dry mouth
  8. fast, pounding, racing, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  9. headache
  10. nervousness
  11. pounding in the ears
  12. rapid breathing
  13. sunken eyes
  14. sweating
  15. swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet
  16. thirst
  17. unusual tiredness or weakness
  18. wrinkled skin

Rare

  1. Chest pain or discomfort
  2. chills
  3. cold sweats
  4. confusion about identity, place, and time
  5. cough
  6. decrease in consciousness
  7. deep or fast breathing with dizziness
  8. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  9. difficulty with sleeping
  10. difficulty with swallowing
  11. drowsiness to profound loss of consciousness
  12. fever
  13. hives, itching, or skin rash
  14. hoarseness
  15. irregular, slow, or shallow breathing
  16. irritability
  17. irritation
  18. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  19. numbness of the feet, hands, and around the mouth
  20. painful urination
  21. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  22. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  23. redness of the skin
  24. restlessness
  25. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  26. severe constipation
  27. severe vomiting
  28. stomach pain
  29. shaking
  30. trouble in holding or releasing urine
  31. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. darkening of the skin
  3. diarrhea
  4. increased sensitivity to pain
  5. large, hive-like swelling on the face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  6. loss of appetite
  7. mental depression
  8. nausea
  9. overactive reflexes
  10. poor coordination
  11. seizures
  12. shivering
  13. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  14. twitching
  15. vomiting
  16. worsening of pain

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Change in consciousness
  2. cold and clammy skin
  3. constricted, pinpoint, or small pupils (black part of the eye)
  4. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  5. difficult or trouble breathing
  6. irregular, fast, slow, or shallow breathing
  7. loss of consciousness
  8. low blood pressure or pulse
  9. muscle weakness
  10. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  11. severe sleepiness or unusual drowsiness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Difficulty having a bowel movement
  2. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  3. relaxed and calm
  4. sensation of spinning
  5. sleepiness

Less common

  1. Belching
  2. decreased weight
  3. discouragement
  4. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  5. feeling of warmth
  6. feeling sad or empty
  7. full or bloated feeling
  8. heartburn
  9. indigestion
  10. lack of appetite
  11. loss of interest or pleasure
  12. passing gas
  13. pressure in the stomach
  14. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  15. stomach discomfort or upset
  16. swelling of the stomach area
  17. tiredness
  18. trouble concentrating

Rare

  1. Blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin
  2. cracked, dry, scaly skin
  3. difficulty with thinking or concentrating
  4. disturbed color perception
  5. double vision
  6. false or unusual sense of well-being
  7. feeling jittery
  8. halos around lights
  9. loss of vision
  10. night blindness
  11. nightmares or unusually vivid dreams
  12. overbright appearance of lights
  13. sudden sweating
  14. tunnel vision
  15. welts

Incidence not known

  1. Forgetfulness
  2. loss of memory
  3. problems with memory
