Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bleeding gums
  3. bloody or cloudy urine
  4. chest tightness
  5. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  6. difficulty with breathing
  7. fever
  8. frequent urge to urinate
  9. hives or welts, itching, skin rash
  10. lower back or side pain
  11. nosebleed
  12. redness of the skin
  13. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Bleeding from the anus
  2. bloody stools
  3. confusion
  4. headache, sudden, severe, and continuing
  5. heavy non-menstrual vaginal bleeding
  6. longer or heavier menstrual periods
  7. nausea
  8. stomach pain
  9. vomiting

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Back pain
  2. bleeding at the catheter site
  3. bleeding or itching at the injection site
  4. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  5. difficulty in moving
  6. headache (mild)
  7. joint pain or swelling
  8. muscle pains, cramps, or stiffness
