Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Agitation
  2. back pain
  3. bleeding gums
  4. bloody urine
  5. blue lips and fingernails
  6. blurred vision
  7. chest pain, discomfort, or tightness
  8. chills
  9. confusion as to time, place, or person
  10. cough
  11. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  12. coughing up blood
  13. decreased frequency or amount of urine
  14. diarrhea
  15. difficult, fast, noisy breathing
  16. dilated neck veins
  17. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  18. drowsiness
  19. dry mouth
  20. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  21. fever
  22. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  23. headache
  24. hoarseness
  25. holding false beliefs that cannot be changed by fact
  26. increase in heart rate
  27. increased blood pressure
  28. increased menstrual flow or vaginal bleeding
  29. increased sweating
  30. increased thirst
  31. irregular breathing
  32. irritability
  33. lightheadedness
  34. loss of appetite
  35. loss of consciousness
  36. lower back or side pain
  37. mood or mental changes
  38. muscle, joint, or bone pain
  39. nausea
  40. nervousness
  41. nosebleeds
  42. painful or difficult urination
  43. pale skin
  44. paralysis
  45. pounding in the ears
  46. problems with speech or speaking
  47. prolonged bleeding from cuts
  48. rapid breathing
  49. red or black, tarry stools
  50. red or dark brown urine
  51. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  52. seizures
  53. shakiness and unsteady walk
  54. slow heartbeat
  55. stiff neck
  56. sunken eyes
  57. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  58. tenderness, pain, swelling, warmth, skin discoloration, and prominent superficial veins over the affected area
  59. thirst
  60. trembling or shaking of the hands or feet
  61. trouble breathing
  62. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  63. unusual excitement, nervousness, or restlessness
  64. unusual tiredness or weakness
  65. vomiting
  66. weight gain
  67. wrinkled skin

Less common

  1. Cloudy urine
  2. muscle twitching or jerking
  3. rhythmic movement of the muscles
  4. stomach pain
  5. unusual bleeding or bruising

Incidence not known

  1. Difficulty in moving or walking
  2. difficulty swallowing
  3. muscle stiffness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Constipation
  2. decreased appetite and weight
  3. pain in the arms or legs
