David A. Wetter, M.D., is a consultant in the Department of Dermatology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Wetter joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 2009 and holds the academic rank of professor of dermatology.

Dr. Wetter earned his BA from Saint Louis University and his MD from Mayo Medical School (where he was selected by his peers as the valedictory speaker in 2004). His Mayo Clinic training includes completing an internship in internal medicine, residency in dermatology, and fellowship in advanced clinical dermatology.

Dr. Wetter's dermatologic clinical and research interests include autoimmune connective tissue diseases and rheumatologic skin diseases (lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, vasculitis, morphea and other sclerosing skin conditions); medical dermatology; hospital dermatology; cutaneous manifestations of systemic disease; and use of systemic medications to treat dermatologic disease. He has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed articles that have been published in leading dermatologic and internal medicine journals.

In addition, Dr. Wetter has provided clinical and research mentorship for many residents and medical students and has been selected four times as the Department of Dermatology Teacher of the Year (and has been inducted into the Teacher of the Year Hall of Fame) by the Mayo Fellows Association.

  • Life-threatening drug eruptions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis
  • Paradoxical autoimmune side effects of tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibitors, including psoriasis, lupus and vasculitis
