Kathy O'Shea, M.D. is a physician in the Department of Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. O'Shea received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology, summa cum laude, from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She then earned her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia. After that, she completed an internal medicine residency at Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, South Carolina, where she was voted Intern of the Year 2008—2009 by faculty and fellow interns and residents, and was the overall winner of the South Carolina American College of Physicians Clinical Case Conference presentations in 2010. She went on to complete a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative medicine at Mayo Clinic hospital in Jacksonville, where she was instrumental in beginning a research project in Early Intervention Palliative Care for Patients Receiving Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant, an ongoing, collaborative study between Hematology/Oncology and Palliative Care at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. O'Shea has had an abiding interest in biomedical ethics throughout medical school, residency and professional practice, and is a past member of the hospital ethics committees at Greenville Memorial Hospital and Mayo Clinic hospital in Jacksonville. She is certified in internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
